I want to talk to whoever decided doughnuts are not their own food group. Listen, they can be served as breakfast, dessert, snacks, comfort food AND some of them can be actually nutritional. You can find sushi doughnuts, croissant doughnuts, fried doughnuts, baked doughnuts, even square doughnuts! I can go on listing why I love doughnuts, but I shall start with why I love Doughnut Plant.
Doughnut Plant is always my first stop whenever I go to New York City. I thought it was because of how close it was to the bus station, but the truth is that the overall experience is what makes me come back to the front store every time. Not only the decoration is superb – doughnuts everywhere from doughnut pillows hung on the wall and doughnut decals on the benches- to the food and beverages themselves.
The coffee at Doughnut Plant is extremely good. I normally go for a cold brew no matter what season it is, and add almond milk. But not at the Doughnut Plant. At the Doughnut Plant I drink my coffee with macadamia nut milk, or even oatmeal milk! It enhances the flavor and makes my taste buds very happy. The coffee is even better when I indulge on the amazing doughnuts.
I have tried a lot of the items on the menu, so I am technically a Doughnut Plant connoisseur and have the ability to rate every single doughnut (that I have tried).
I am going to start with the doughseeds because they are my absolutely favorite and I would pick them over any other one. The doughseeds are doughnut wholes that are filled and usually covered in glaze. The ones I have tried are the hazelnut doughnut and the crème brûlée one. The hazelnut one, as its name suggests, has chocolate hazelnut cream and chopped hazelnuts on the top, while the crème brûlée one is filled with custard and topped with a caramel glaze.
The cake doughnuts are to die for, my favorite being the tres leeches (sponge cake made out of three types of milk). The doughnut is very velvety and glazed with a buttery, milky frosting. This particular doughnut goes extremely well with the cold brew. The red velvet, the black and white, and the carrot cake are other cake doughnuts I highly enjoyed. Especially the carrot cake one that tasted fairly similar to the original cake.
Lastly, I need to talk about the rose doughnut. Not only does it look like a beautiful rose, but it taste like rose water! You need to try it for yourself the you go to the Doughnut Plant.
