Bud and Marilyn’s retro food.

I always liked fried cheese. I like it more than I should. But can you blame me? It is crispy, gooey, and delicious. I made it a goal of mine to find the best fried cheese in Philadelphia, so I did it the old-fashioned way and Googled it. I came across Bud and Marilyn’s famous cheese curds and decided to give this place a try.

I went for a late lunch, and the food was so delicious that I didn’t eat anything until the next day. I obviously ordered the cheese curds, after all that was the main reason for my trip to the restaurant. I also got the warm buttermilk biscuits, and oh my were they delicious. The butter softened on the buns the moment the knife touched the bread. The biscuits were so buttery, that they melted in my mouth. I decided to go the extra mile, and pilled the cheese curds on the biscuits, and tried them together.  I regret nothing.

We all shared the pretzel rolls with melted cheese. It was four round buns with the cheese on top. Normally, I would skip the pretzels because I am not a big fan of how salty they normally are, but this one wasn’t. Maybe the cheese mellowed it down, but they were perfect.

The fried chicken was one of the best things of the night. It was juicy and crispy and paired with the biscuits to make this dish even better.  The vegetarian chop suey was extremely good as well. This dish normally contains pulled pork, but you can request it to be vegan or vegetarian. It came in two buns, and it tasted sweet, sour, spicy, and salty. The pineapple made it sweet, the carrot-jicama and the tahini made it salty, and the tahini-Dijon made it a little spicy. I swear every bite was a different sensation.

This retro-American place is a must if you are looking for traditional Southern dishes. You can’t miss it if you are craving a good biscuit or delicious fried chicken.
