Am I the only one who screams “Stella” like Stanley Kowalski did on A Streetcar Named Desire when reading this restaurant’s name? I seriously doubt it.
In all seriousness, Stella is one of those places I know I should go to more often by I forget about its existence until its 3 a.m. and I’m craving a good pizza pie. Which sucks because Stella is a restaurant that closes by 11 p.m.
The communal feeling of Stella is one of my favorite things about this place. The big tables that are meant to sit more than just one party make the experience very unique. It is a very open space and filled with natural light -which made my pictures even prettier! Another thing that I love about Stella is how unique its beverages are. The regular soft drinks we all adore are not offered at Stella, rather San Pellegrino flavored water.
As for the food, I have to say that I mainly focused on the pizzas. I asked about the arancini balls -main reason why I wanted to go in the first place- and they are not vegetarian. If you know of a place that serves vegetarian arancini balls, please contact me ASAP. The sheep ricotta was extremely creamy and rich, and the rosemary flatbread was incredible good. It was a mix of crunchy and soft, and the combination of the rosemary and cheese was incredible good. I would personally stay way from ordering this appetizer if you are going to order a pizza, but I you get a salad or a pasta make sure to order the ricotta.
We obviously ordered the pizzas, one being more delicious than the one before. I ordered a Quattro Formaggi to fullfil my daily cheese requirement. This pizza, as opposed to the Margherita one, was packed with cheese and strong flavors. It resembled many other cheese pizzas, although this one was more fancy than most I have eaten. The Margherita on another hand, was very well done. I am not a fan of pizzas with little cheese, but I feel that the balance of sauce-cheese made this one extremely enjoyable. Would I order it next time? No. But I would definitely snatch a slice if someone else does.
My favorite pizza of the night has to be Tartufo, having black truffle oil, black truffle cream and black truffle bits on a fontina bed. To make it even better, this pizza is topped with runny egg yolk. Four of my favorite things together if you count its bread!
The special of the week was a pizza with arugula, shaved parmesan cheese and fig jam. I am a huge fan of fig with cheese for combination of sweet and salty flavors and the added pepperiness of the arugula made this pizza more than just special. I wish it was part of Stella’s regular menu.
Jewtina tips: Ask for the specials. They have different pizzas depending on the month or season and they are something you cannot miss.
